Right Before My Very Eyes

I decided this week before I started anything new I had to finish something.  There were just too many things lying around my sewing room, either cut out and no piecing, others with some piecing, and then still more that are pieced and just need to be quilted.  I have all kinds of projects I want to start, especially now that summer is right around the corner, and I will have vacation time and waiting for my son time to work on them.

I decided the first thing I should finish is my Schnibbles X-Rated.  I don't even remember cutting this out, but I did, and all the pieces were right there staring at me.  At least I thought they were until I started sewing and realized something was missing, and it was not a little something, it was a big something.  Every night when I would go to my sewing room I would search for 34 pieces that I knew I had cut for the borders, but they were no where to be found.  I actually started to question if I was losing my mind or had suddenly stopped for some reason, maybe because I had run out of fabric. I knew I had had two layers cakes so that couldn't have been the case. I kept sewing and the closer I got to needing those pieces the more frustrated I became.  Yesterday I finally ordered another layer cake and went back to work...

So the quilt is now a flimsy and I can't add the borders, and then as I am sitting at my sewing machine sewing the last row on I see it.  I remember where my extra border pieces went...

Up on my design wall is this mini medallion quilt.  Now I remember, all those extra pieces were perfect for this quilt.  Note to self, even if I think it is a scrap, it may not be, and if it is in a neat little stack with a whole bunch of other pieces I will not use it until I make sure it isn't for something else.  The funny thing is, the whole time I was sewing I was deciding how to quilt the mini on the design wall.  I guess the fabrics look completely different when used in larger pieces compared to tiny ones.  I scare myself sometimes.  Well, enjoy your Memorial Day weekend.  And an added note...something happened with comments and my email, they don't always show up there, so I'm not ignoring you, I just may not see it right away.  Happy Stitching!!  --Kristen

What A Week...

This last week has been exhausting to say the least.  We had the long three-day weekend, which was wonderful, but I could have used five days, and it was the last week of school.  I always seem to forget that the last week of school is full of added activities besides the normal ones.  Thank goodness it is all over with and I say "Bring on Summer."  Of course that would mean we would be able to turn our furnace off.  Never in my life do I remember having the furnace running in June...but last night it did.  It was just too cold for me, and I have to say I was wonderfully warm all night!

I did get some late night stitching done over the holiday.  I am working my way across the 12-month "A Dozen Buzzin's" patterns by SamSarah, and I have just started the second border of May.  I'm still enjoying it which is a good thing as I have to keep flipping through the 12 patterns.  It is a cute project when finished, and I have just the place to display it.

This is a project in color placement using a couple Kona solids charm packs.  I am using a Schnibble's pattern and in all my excitement of trying to keep the fabrics in color order, I forgot to cut enough pieces.  I realized this at about 1:30 this morning.  It gives me a little more to think about while I'm working on it.  I realize I've been absent for a while, but I have a couple of blog hops coming up and a few vacation days which will be spent waiting for my son while he is in out of town day camps.  That means there should be ample time to explore quilt shops AND spend a lot of time sewing.  Happy Stitching!!  --Kristen

Wow what a day!

Yesterday was such an exciting day I just had to share it with you.  I was very busy opening packages..it was so much fun.  First the mailman brought this...

How fun is this one?  I had won three Schnibbles patterns from Thelma and they arrived wrapped like this...it was almost too pretty to open.  Take a minute and check out Thelma's blog, you won't believe the things she does with fabric, AND she is the nicest person.  Thank you Thelma...I can't wait to get started on these...

Three new Schnibbles and oh the possibilities! :)  Then the UPS man brought two packages and the first had this in it...

You cannot imagine how excited I was to get this...until I saw the book with it. :)  I started reading it last night and now I'm really excited.  Just wait until you see what I can do with this program.

The second package contained this from Moda...long story short, the people at Moda are very, very nice.

Last evening I spent 1 hour and 22 minutes on the phone with the person from McAfee antivirus upgrading my software...that was fun.  Everything is done, and we should be good for another year.  :)

Don't forget the FNSI tonight.  I'm so excited to be virtually stitching with all of you.  I had an idea...I know I have people reading that do not have a blog, but will be working on something tonight.  Email me and let me know you will be stitching with me and what you will be working on.  If you don't have a blog and you'd like to show all of us what you are working on, send me a picture by email and I'll post pictures of them tomorrow.

I'll be snuggled in a quilt tonight, watching old movies, and stitching away.  Happy Stitching!
