Twist To The 60's With Batiks And A Giveaway!

I have to say that I don't remember the 60's at all...I was born in the 60's, but I only actually was around for 10 months of them.  Unfortunately, I have no fond recollections of them at all.

In the 80's my husband tried to get me to wear tie dyed t-shirts.  He didn't get very far, and batiks have always been a bit of a stretch for me, that is until now.

When Merrilee from Stitchin' It Up Quilt Shop got these batiks in I knew exactly what I wanted to make with them.  Something with a twist that would make the fabrics pop and the Star Surround pattern from Happy Quilting I thought was perfect.

These fabrics are spectacular.  I took these photos before I quilted the piece, and tomorrow I will have photos of the quilting as it is just too dark right now to even try getting them right (I figured I would finish after dark and I was right).  Now for the giveaway...

Stitchin' It Up Quilt Shop has the best customer service you can wish for...my fabric arrived before I was even expecting it.  You can win this fat quarter bundle of batiks and you have three chances to win.  The winner will be drawn on Friday, October 4.

1.  Go to Stitchin' It Up Quilt Shop, like their Facebook page, and leave a comment letting me know you      liked it.
2.  Go to Stitchin' It Up Quilt Shop, sign up for their newsletter, and leave a comment letting me know        you have done so.
3.  Leave a comment letting me know how much you love batiks!

Thanks to Madame Samm for another wonderful blog hop and to Mary our wonderful cheerleader.  Here are the participants for today.

Crazy About Wool Blog Hop

I'm just going to say it...I love wool.  I love wool yarn, wool sweaters, wool socks, wool coats, wool blankets, and then there are the fun things to make with wool...

I'm thinking Halloween ornaments are really fun, especially when they are made out of wool!

There is always another pincushion that can be made from wool (especially when there is still 99% of a 10-pound bag of crushed walnut shells left to fill it).

And a person just can't forget about Christmas ornaments, especially when Christmas Day is less than three months away (kits from Rosebud's Cottage).

A big thank you to Denise for hosting this Crazy About Wool Hop.  Here are my fellow participants for today:

Half-Square Triangles

I'm so excited about the project I'm working on right now I had to show some progress...

I smile the whole time I am working on this quilt.  The colors are just too fun...tonight I've got some flying geese to make and then I can start putting it all together.  I've also got a lot of wool flying around here, but that will have to wait until Friday. :)  Happy Stitching!!  --Kristen

Cutting and A Winner

I am still having major problems with my email, which is just so disturbing.  Funny how nothing bothers us until it does not work! :)

Today I've been cutting.  I'm so excited about this I may just start sewing now.

My husband went and got himself a cake donut after seeing this on the kitchen table.  :)  Here are the two winners...

               Deb@asimplelifequilts said...

So sweet... I would love to sink my pins into a strawberry donut!

Bettina Groh said...
I would love to win your donut pincushion! For my son... who is not a sewer but who runs an 850 people kitchen for one of the gas/convenience store companies. Wouldn't it look great on his desk? And not a temptation to munch at the same time!!

If the two of you can email me, that would be wonderful, otherwise I will try contacting you as soon as my email is working again.  Happy Stitching!!  --Kristen

The Final Day Of The Pin It Hop

In the last week I've somehow managed to become a no-reply blogger, blow up my email account, and bog my computer down to the point of it not moving very quickly (I was actually without power for part of the day today, but they can't blame that on me!).  I can honestly and wholeheartedly say I have enjoyed every minute of it.  I'm really rather sad to see this hop end, BUT...there is no shortage of pincushions today.

This little guy is made from the pattern Two Little Tweets by Melly & Me.  It really wasn't that hard to make after I figured out how to sew it together.

It is time to give a great big thanks to Madame Samm for coming up with this whole pincushion hop idea, and PBTEX and Bird Brain Designs for the prizes.

Last, but certainly not least are our participants for today!

Pin It Day 5 and Little Fall Fun

After our short break over the weekend I'm ready to start hopping again!  I made this bird pincushion earlier this year (which is what got me started on making pin cushions), and spent some time this weekend making the candy corn.  It is made of wool and I actually purchased some crushed walnuts for this one so it has some weight to it.

I'm not a big fan of the reptile isle at the pet store (which is where you find the crushed walnuts), and it actually took me two days to open the bag, but I am loving the finished product.

All the candy corn and pumpkins got me in the fall decorating mood...and sewing mood which is just perfect as there is a chill in the air.

It is day 4 of our Pin It Hop.  The creativity is just exciting and a big heartfelt thanks goes to Madame Samm for orchestrating this and PBTEX and Bird Brain Designs for the prizes.

Pin It Blog Hop Day 4 and Something Sweet Giveaway

Every time I make these donut pincushions I leave a plate of them on the table just to make my husband think I bought him donuts, which is kind of mean because cake donuts are his absolute favorite.  I love to give them away as gifts because they always make me smile thinking of the fun we have with them and they make great pincushions.  (Keep reading there is a way for you to get one of these).

Don't they look yummy?  And this type is perfect for the waist line.  :)

The Pin It Hop has been going fabulously.  Every day is an adventure to see what new creations have been made.  Thank you Madame Samm for this great hop...and here are today's participants.

Pin It Hop Day 3 And A Bee

Ever since I found this bee pincushion on Pinterest I've been wanting to make it (about a week)...and since the instructions are free and you can find them here, well there was nothing stopping me.

I always know when something is a hit if my family asks if they can have it, and they all wanted this one.  Guess I'm going to have to make a few more.

It is time to thank Madame Samm for this wonderfully fun and creative hop, and our sponsors Bird Brain Designs and PBTEX who have provided some very generous prizes.

Pin It Hop Day 2

It is day 2 of the Pin It Hop and I am so excited to see what everyone will show.   The first day had some wonderful pincushions!  Seems I'm loving the pincushions so much I can hardly decide which one to make next.

This tiny house is a pattern from Gingermelon.  I love little houses whether they are pincushions, villages, or Christmas ornaments.  Seems there is just no place like home.

There is a little bit of embroidery on every side and then that blessed blanket stitch which is used to assemble the house.

Even the back has a flower garden which was just too fun to stitch (I got to make french knots!).

Enough about me, it is time to thank Madame Samm for this wonderfully fun and creative hop, and our sponsors Bird Brain Designs and PBTEX who have provided some pretty awesome prizes.

Pin It Blog Hop

I've been waiting and waiting for this day...trying to be patient.  First of all I want to thank Madame Samm for giving me the chance to be a cheerleader.  It has been so much fun already, and we haven't even started the hop yet.  We have over 100 participants and some wonderful prizes to be won (see below).

I started out with three pin cushions.  They are all made of different mediums, wool, felt, and fabric, all with their own embellishments.

A little embroidery bird with some of my favorite fabric added (design by Gail Pan).

A tiny bee from Just Another Button company who has fun buttons and pins to embellish him.

And then a colorful pin keep from Rosebud's Cottage made with wool.  The wonderful thing about this one, beside it being so colorful, is that it sits flat on the arm of my sofa...the perfect place for a pincushion (just ask my husband and son who have sat on needles more than once)!

There are wonderful prizes to be won and great websites to visit!

Enjoy the hop and stop by each day to see who is up next.  I'm planning on having a new pincushion each day of the hop to show.  Happy Stitching and Hopping!!

Guest Judge And Some Knitting

While working on my pincushions, I'm also the guest judge over at Quilting Gallery this week.  There are some beautiful quilts there and you can vote until 6 p.m. this evening.  The theme is Leaves, Trees and Flowers with some really beautiful quilts entered (so go vote)!

There has been a little accomplished on the prayer shawl this week.  It is always interesting to see how the yarn patterns work out and funny that when I look at it I don't see the changes in the yarn.  I will be back late tonight/early tomorrow morning with my pincushions!!  Happy Stitching!!  --Kristen
