Today's block is a star so it is near and dear to my heart (of course). About half way through piecing it I realized I had made something similar to it before, although it was an entire quilt. If you leave the corner triangles off it becomes a hexagon...and the perfect table topper.
This is number 339 of 366 blocks (I have been working my way through the 365 Quilt Blocks a Year Calendar this year and am so close to being finished I can hardly stand it!) This is a 12-inch block.
Now for the giveaway. This time of year I end up bringing my projects with me as I tend to spend a lot of time waiting at basketball practices, in between games and other activities my son participates in, and it gets dark so quickly it makes my stitching time short. I found these Ott Lights a few years ago and they are perfect to take along in your bag. They are actually compact enough you can fit it in your purse. There is also a clip on the back so you can hang it from your purse or even your coat. Anyway, I love mine and would love to share one with two different winners.
I have also found they work great in poorly lit areas at home. To enter leave me a comment telling me where you stitch when you wait, the car, a hallway, steps, the great outdoors, or maybe at your kitchen table. If you are already a follower or a new follower leave me a second comment stating that for another chance to win. I will use the random number generator to choose the winners on December 8 at 5 p.m CST, and I will ship internationally. Happy Stitching!! --Kristen

I stitch in the car, on the train, anywhere where I have to sit still for more than 10 minutes! lol
For the first time I did some EPP while hanging out with my son in the hospital, I will have to do some more this upcoming week.
I stitch on the ferry ride to the mainland and back. I live on an island, and it's a good 20 minute ride each way :)
That's such a great idea!
Thanks for the giveaway!
I stitch while watching tv.
I stitch in the car or in bed.
Oh, those are a brilliant idea! (no pun intended)
I don't hand sew (just machine), but I do knit when out and about, and I do that in the car, on the train, on the sofa...
I mostly stitch in the living room in front of the telly, and with "help" from the cat. But I also stitch waiting for the ferry and then on the ferry to the little island where I study every weekend. Or I do when it's not too cold out, since I've yet to figure out how to make stitching with gloves on work. :)
I stitch while watching TV :) Thanks for the chance to win, this light would be awesome!
I stitch in the car while eating for my children to finish various activities. Great giveaway!

I sew mostly at my kitchen table and on my couch. Both places have awful lighting (the t.v. room is the WORST).

Obrigada.

I stitch in airports and on planes; I've learned to check the plane's overhead light before choosing a seat (in case it doesn't work, as on SWA many overhead lights do not)!

Cute star block! I usually stitch in the car but only in the daylight. One of these little lights would extend my stitching time.
I am a happy follower!
I'm a follower as well!
I stitch in my chair but have to contort to the light available.
Thank you for the chance to shed some light on my projects :D
Most of my handstitching is done in front of the TV while relaxing on the couch. My baby girl is usually sleeping in her little chair on the floor, so we have the lights way down to let her sleep. One of these would definitely come in handy for me!
I am a new follower through RSS feed.
I stitch sitting on the couch. In my 'elder' years, I have to have lots of light in order to thread the needle and make small stitches. I would love to have this little OTT light. Maybe I need to send a note to Santa!!
I do hand stitching on journeys and lots of times the light is poor. Looks like this little light would be very handy!
I'm glad you joined up. The extra lighting is such a help as we get older too.
I am one of your followers.
I do not stitch while waiting...odd as it sounds...I use that time to doodle and sketch out new creative adventures. At night I like to sit and crochet on the couch while the rest of the family watches football, basketball, movies etc....

I definitely do most of mine on the couch!
I'm a kitchen table stitcher with my laptop propped so I can watch TV online :)
Everywhere. If I'm sitting for more than a few minutes, I'm stitching
I like to stitch just about anywhere at any time. But I especially like to do it when we attend our area Renaissance Fair on the weekends in the Spring. My husband likes to go every weekend and sometimes I get a bit bored so I always take something to work on while he wanders around.
I stitch in the car a lot!
I already follow you!
I stitch while my husband watches tv or while listening in Sunday school. (it helps me listen if my hands are moving :) )

I don't normally do much stitching while waiting, but my kids are finally getting old enough to sit for a while, so I just did my first hand quilting last week on a pillow and I did it mostly while waiting for them at Sunday school and outside on a park bench at the playground. It was so nice! I bought a perle cotton set and a hoop so I am going to try a free embroidery pattern to make into a pillow next. Thanks for the chance!
In the car waiting for my 14 year old daughter to come strolling out of volleyball practice.

I like to stitch almost anywhere...in waiting rooms, at the DMV, and most especially at the airport.
I love the light! What a great idea! I'm a knitter and we meet on Sundays at a poorly lit cafe, but i knit everywhere - on the train, waiting at the station, buses, dr's office, etc. What a handy tool, I was just talking to my fellow knitters about getting something like it. Thanks for hosting this giveaway!

I often stitch while sitting on the couch -- and it is a dark area of our apartment!
I am a happy regular follower of your blog!
I stitch in waiting rooms (dr's offices and daughters dance class)and while traveling. At home I have a teensy tiny sewing nook with no light but a lamp and what is on my sewing machine so this would be great for any of these.
I normally stitch at home, in my craft room or the sitting room. I don't really stitch outside my home. thanks for this giveaway!
Wow-I've never even seen these-great idea! If I'm not at home, I'm in the carpool line. Can get lots done there!
Thanks for the giveaway! My craft room is actually my daughter's walk in closet. There is very poor lighting, so this would be great to have. wonderlandbyalyce(at)gmail(dot)com
I didn't know there were portable ott lights. It would be perfect for working in my dark basement. I've stitched all kinds of places-the car, the park, girl scout meetings, but my favorite was quilting at the beach.
My 3 year old won't take naps anymore, but falls asleep in the car, so sometimes on really fussy days I drive until he falls asleep, then park at a store I was going to go to anyway, and stitch in the car until he wakes up. Then fresh air and looking at interesting things at the store is generally distracting enough he's not too upset about waking up in the car, lol.
I always have a project with me in the car!
I sometimes stitch in the car. Thanks for the chance!
i would love that thanks

I do a lot of construction inspection and there are frequent lulls between things I have to inspect! This summer I spent a lot of time sitting on a raised manhole on a hillside sewing! A really sweet old lady who lived down the street stopped to talk to me about sewing and told me all about her family :)

When I'm not stitching at home, I bring something along during long car rides or waiting for a sports practice to be over. Thanks for the chance to win.
I do a lot of stitching in poor light on my couch, and more and more in the car waiting in the pick up line.
Most of my stitching done while waiting is while I'm at work. I don't often do it when I'm working day shifts, but when I work nights, the breaks seem to drag on forevvvvvvver, so I tend to do some stitching then.
(clumsy.chord(at)gmail.com)
I do most of my stitching at home, but since it's winter and it just feels so dark, inside and out, I wouldn't mind a little extra light!
I do a lot of handwork at my kids soccer games during the summer, gymnastics in winter and also dance class! I have a large Ott lite at my sewing table and absolutely love it! Thanks so much for the wonderful giveaway!

I'm a commuting stitcher. It takes me an hour to get to work on the bus and a half hour longer to get home so I get plenty of stitching time. Thanks for the great giveaway opportunity.

I handstitch in my recliner while watching tv, though have occasionally basted hexies in the doctor's office.
In the car, for sure.
I stitch anywhere but the most awkward regarding light is by the campfire when we are camping. Unless the fire is blazing the light is not always good but I tend to get a lot done because it is so relaxing and my children are tired after a busy day outside.
