Blog Hop Party With Giveaways!

Quilting Gallery is celebrating their 5th birthday and what a fun way to celebrate with a blog hop and giveaways.  There are tons of giveaways with this blog hop so make sure you check them out here.

Blog Hop Party

We had a wonderful snowy day here in Minnesota so I of course spent it doing some finishing work.  There is nothing like being cozy and warm inside while huge white snowflakes are falling outside.

My first project for today was to take the Angelsong block (number 312) and make it into an ornament for our Christmas tree.  I added the year to it, a 3/4-inch border, quilted it, added a hanging ribbon, stuffed it, and hung it on the tree.  And although I doubt I will ever forget that I made it in 2012, it is always nice to remember the year an ornament was finished, as it seems the older I get the faster the years fly by.

I then decided to quilt my Drop quilt.  This time I did not use my BSR,  I just turned the speed up on my machine so I could quilt the way I have in the past.  It was fun to compare the two as I just quilted a larger quilt using the BSR.  I think for smaller quilts I will definitely not us it as I can get smaller stitches and go fast.  The bigger quilts I think are definitely for the BESR, especially when there is so much more fabric to work with.

Now for the giveaway...I will be giving away the two fat quarter bundles shown above.  One is Parrot Flock and the other Seagull Flock by Thomas Knauer for Andover Fabrics.  After laying these out I was wishing I had purchased another one for me.  To enter the giveaway leave me a comment letting me know what you would work on if you had one entire uninterrupted day to do nothing but work on a project.  Would you piece, quilt, or work on a binding.  Would you applique or embroider something or do something entirely different?  For a second chance, as always, leave me a comment stating you are a follower or a new follower.  This giveaway will be open until Monday, December 15 at 7 p.m.  Happy Stitching!!  --Kristen

Fun, I love Thomas Knauer's fabric. I can't wait for his Thesaurus line to come out (I'm a former English teacher).

I would probably start a new quilt. I've been wanting to make Bizzy Kid by Cluck Cluck Sew and I have the pattern and fabrics. Maybe I could get it done in a day!

I couldn't finish all that in a day but I would certainly get a lot done. . Thanks for the opportunity to win your giveaway.

Golly - that's a hard one! I keep telling myself if I had an entire day in my own sewing space that I'd get to quilting my barn raising BOM and finishing up my scrappy friendship quilt. However, I do love my piecing and it would be nice to clean out some more project boxes.

ahh a WHOLE interrupted day????? Makes me drool just thinking about it! I'd finish up a twin quilt I'm working on and finally START my sons' Christmas quilts. I've already resolved that they're just getting the quilt tops on Christmas morning, then I will promptly snatch them back (to avoid fraying) and finish them sometime next month, heh heh. I'm a genius.

Leo said...

a whoel day - ha maybe finish up all those UFOs, some of them just need a bidning attached, some need sandwiching and quilting .. and I usuallyl leave those be how am I suppose to baste a quilt in 2 hours and where to store it until I get the next chance to sew?
Aye finishing loose ends it woudl be.
Now if I ould do anything just anything - at this time of the year, prepare a big lunch pack, a thermos bottle of tea take my slefge and find me a decent mountain and then be all groggy in the afternooon and drink more warm tea and read through my current books ..

If I had a whole day to sew...I'd piece and hand quilt some UFO's.

Anonymous said...

I am new to your blog...what fun.

Sandy H said...

Since I don't usually get them, I have a tendency to use whole days I have for quilting as "found time," and spend it doing fun stuff, like doing a fast project start to finish (like a disappearing 9-patch), or experimental techniques that I've been wanting to play with. Ongoing projects may get a piece of the pie, but I like to spend found time as play time, just like found money should be used for fun too!

Sandy H said...

I'm a follower! Thanks for the giveaway opportunity.

I would finish Christmas gifts.

Marjorie said...

I always think that I'm going to finish one of the UFO's - which normally is a complicated piecing project. In reality I know I'll lose interest and have sore shoulders within a few hours, so then I'll kick back on the couch and do some hand quilting until my underside finger gets sore (never mastered an under thimble). Then I'm still good for a little applique.

Marjorie's Busy Corner said...

I would get moving on the'Bluenose' quilt

An uninterrupted day hrmmm. Well this is using our imagination so can safely assume no drug side effects as well. So would work on quilting my "Atlantis Rising" quilt which has been put on hold because of medical reasons.

After that applique or stitchery.

Uniterrupted day of creating?

Mary said...

If I had a whole uninterrupted day I would like to finish quilt tops that are calling out to me.

I tend to only work on one project at a time, so I would probably do whatever needed to be done at the time! Although it is nice to sit down and do a big chunk of quilting in one big sitting, rather than in 15 minute increments over a period of weeks. :)
