Think Ruffles

I don't know about you, but I rarely think of making ruffles.  I made a bed skirt once with 8 yards of fabric and dental floss...I've made curtains with ruffles, and I've made a few pillows.  Since I have no little girls I finally decided to do what I know...

I just finished this Valentine's embroidery and I did not want it to sit unfinished waiting for Valentine's to roll around again.  I also purchased the ruffler foot for my sewing machine and boy is that sweet.  You change the setting to how many ruffles you want per stitches and it makes it for you.  I think next time I will put a few more ruffles in my ruffle.  ;)  The pattern for the embroidery is from Bare Roots and was a fun one to stitch.  I did change the colors of floss just by picking a color I liked and stitching with it.

Here are the rest of the participants for the Think Ruffles Hop!  Thank you Mdm Samm and Amy for all your encouragement!!

Really cute and great use of the embroidery too.

Your embroidered pillow is very pretty! Using dental floss is a great idea. I make my ruffles by hand and use waxed hand-quilting thread, but dental floss would serve the same purpose! But now that you have a ruffler foot you can save the floss for your teeth lol.

Lovely pillow. Great stitching! I agree...I want to know more about the 8 yards fabric and dental floss...do tell, do tell. :)

Just too sweet. Suffering from the same "no girls around" thing, makes it harder to ruffle something doesn't it!

Love the Bare Roots patterns also; have several. Mostly snowmen, and I will often pull an element of one of the patterns for a different project. A ruffle is the perfect way to finish a valentine's pillow.

That is so darling, Kristen and a great use of the stitchery piece. Now you are all set for next Valentine's Day.

Had I participated I would have tried making a new dust ruffle for my bed and try out the gathering foot on my serger. I still think I might but it will be for the other bed---different bed frame is in place and I can see the side of the box springs now. Ooops!

It is nice when we finish something before the date. I would like to get a ruffler for my machine. My mother had one for her 1947 Singer, but that won't work on my Viking. Thanks for sharing.
