Contrary Wife

The name for this block is interesting.  This is a variation on a 9-patch block, and I love 9-patch blocks.

This block was fun, and I kind of took it in a different direction with the fabrics. It is block number 156 of 366 and it is a 9-inch block.  It is well known that I love 9-patches and quilts made with them.  It also seems that every time I turn around anymore I'm seeing a different pattern using them...

Bonnie Hunter has a pattern in the new Quiltmaker magazine.

And Fons and Porter have a bonus pattern using 9-patches in the new Scrap Quilts magazine, which got me to thinking about a quilt along I wanted to join a couple of years ago, but never got to.  They made a 9-patch a day for the entire summer.  The best thing about 9-patch blocks is that you can use any size strips to make them.  You could use a jelly roll, or they are great for using up scraps.  So, what I am wondering is if anyone would be interesting in doing a 9-patch quilt along.  You can do whatever pattern you want, it can be modern or traditional, you can plan your colors or use scraps, and you can make it as big or small as you want.  What I'm looking for now is to see if there is any interest in doing it or not.  I started a Facebook page so if you don't have a blog, you can show your blocks there...I could also do a linky party one day a week to show your progress.  It would be all up to you how much you participated.  If you would like to participate, please leave me a comment or send me an email.  I may be doing this myself, but the best thing about 9-patch blocks, they can be quilted very easily or as intricately as you wish.  I would like to start by Monday, June 18 and aim for the first weekend in September to finish.  I'm linking with Judy for Design Wall Monday.  Happy Stitching!!  --Kristen

I am definitely in. Hopefully you can find some good examples of 9 patch blocks to showcase. And glad you are starting AFTER the show. ;)

9 patches are one of my favorites, too. I'd like to join in. I have some scraps that I cut into strips that would be great for some quick piecing.

I would love to join in. One block a day is easy to commit to.
