Wicked Blog Hop
It is time for another blog hop, and since this one is the "Wicked" blog hop I decided to do something off the wall for me.
I had to laugh about this when I started thinking back to when I was the age of my son. I was 13 years old and did a lot of babysitting. I decided one night to watch the Exorcist. By the time that movie was over I was petrified and scared to death. The people I was babysitting for took me home and I couldn't run fast enough to get in the house. I had horrible nightmares for the weeks to follow and was terrified when it was time to go to bed. I finally had to tell my mom that I had watched the movie and that I was so sorry I did. I don't do scary anymore for Halloween after that, so my wicked is the use of color.
The colors are so bright they actually don't show up right. The blue is more of a purple. I also just went through my stash and chose from what I had, not paying attention to how much I had. That meant there were some changes made where fabrics were used because I didn't have enough of one or the other. This pattern was the Mystery Monday quilt from This and That Patterns. I did mine differently using dark fabric for the background (another huge step for me).
A huge thank you to Madame Samm and Wendy for organizing this hop, and here are today's participants.
Happy Stitching and Hopping!! --Kristen

Your wall quilt is so bright and happy. Thanks for sharing your creativity
Very cute. Sometimes it's the running out of one fabric or another that makes us push our creative selves. Wonderful job!
nice pattern, cute colors, great job.
I wasn't allowed to watch that movie until I moved out of my parents house, at the age of 21 it scared me to death also, I wish I had never watched it!
Your wallhanging is pretty! and I do not do scary movies either. My older sister is a different story... She has every Stephen King book ever written!
It is a lovely quilt with the colours chosen. I do not watch scary movies which based on yours and others experiences is a good thing! :)
Real nice !! and yeah not such a great movie to watch!!! Happy Halloween!
Very pretty, non-scary quilt.
It is good to step out of your comfort zone every now and then. I have a swap partner who this year asked for Aqua, Orange and Grey, I struggled with those for a while and then PING! I fell in love. I now make a block to swap and one to keep.
Fabulous - I love it!
Ohhhh, that's so much fun. I love the bright colors! I have trouble with photos of purple and blues too. Wonder what's up with that??
That is a very nice piece Kristen. I loved the Exorcist...of course; I was older when it came out. I can see you running to the house...lol.
Great quilt. Love the pieced pumpkins! I haven't seen the exorcist. I try to avoid scary movies still to this day. What can I say... i am easily scared. ;)
we won't even talk about "that movie' amd how it scarred me for years lol. I soooo understand, the fact you still joined us and featured your fall colour quilt...I am all over that ...BREWfabulous
Great pumpkins....I saw the Exorcist when I was an adult, bunch of us went to the movie on Halloween. Lets just say that my house was full of the party goers afterwards, everyone was too afraid to go home.
Love your beautiful quilt! The colors are lovely! I can't imagine watching Exorcist by myself in a strange house.... I'd still be having nightmares! Boo!
very cute. Love the dark background.
Love it!! Makes me wnt to go to my sewing room and get creative!thanks for the inspiration!

I've never seen The Exorcist, and never will! I'm too afraid lol. Your quilt is beautiful!
Love your spooky shoes :)

Oh yeah, You did a beautiful job. I love those colors. I don't do scary either. Since the kids are all grown, I live a simple life. (try anyway)
I'm with you on the scary movies--it was a scary movie at a theater that did it to me at about six years old! I like your quilt and I love that you're stepping outside your boxes to make it. That's the best part! Cheers!
So adorable!!!
Your wickedness paid off big time! Well done you! I was so glad to read about someone NOT liking that type of movie.... I was beginning to feel I was the only one! Thanks!
Love your story and the quilt... lovely

I never watched the Exorcist or any of those other creepy and scary Halloween movies or I'd be just like you and be making sweet creations like yours. I love it!
wonderfully wicked work!!
I had a similar experience with Friday the 13th. No more scary movies for me either. I love your project, especially the little acorns on the side. Thanks for sharing and being daring!
Your pumpkin wallhanging is perfect for the season! I'm with you - I don't like the very scary images so this is a perfect project.
I don't like scary either. That is what is so good about this hop. It is full of fun. I Like your wall hanging very much.
Thanks for sharing your story. I prefer the non scary side of Halloween. I've not seen the movie and don't care to see it. Great job playing with colors...love the checker board sashing...thanks for sharing Kristin!
That movie scared me back then too. Still kinda does now. Eeeks!
Love your creation. The colors are so awesome!

Lovely! Clean and crisp!
You made a quilt that can be used for more than just Halloween. the Dark background makes the colors show more. I saw that movie too and will never eat split pea soup EVER! Crazy how a movie can scare you the rest of your life. I don't do the spooky part of October either.
Love all the bright colours, Thanks for sharing
So so cute! And your story had me laughing out loud. :)

No, 13! I was a freshman in college and went with my roommate. She was so scared that over break she slept in her parents room on the floor. I did not see too much I was buried under my boyfriend's arm! To this day I have never seen it again!
I love bright, and you choose the perfect colors. I just love it!
Very lovely, I liked the colors you chose, I know pictures don't always do them justice. Thank you for sharing.
Nice job. Thanks for participating.
Such a "happy" halloween wallhanging!! I haven't liked scary since I was a kid also and had nightmares for a week after seeing the original War of the Worlds. Thanks for sharing with us.
Really love your piece. It is so bright and colorful.
What a wicked color combo!

The dark background is perfect for your quilt. Love it.
I like the bright colors....and bright colors always seem to pop against a black background! Thanks for sharing!
That was a super scary movie. I did the same with Abbot and Costello Meets the Mummy. Loved what you did with all your colors and fabrics. It's great because it's also a fall theme and not just Halloween.
What fun colors! I am not a fan of scary either…fun but not scary!! Thanx for sharing
Nini~

Love all those colors!
That movie did the same for me too! Great project and you colors are awesome!
Love your quilt and the bright colors you used.
Your quilt is beautiful! So bright and fun!
Kristen, Your projects are always amazing. Your step out to use black for a background looks very "natural." It's amazing and perfect for this project. I love your fabric choices. I often scroll on down to look at the posts available without having to look at "Older Posts." Many of your posts fit into this theme too and are equally amazing. Thanks for participating and being a great, creative inspiration as usual.
I forgot to tell you - I was about 8 years older when I saw The Excorcist I was working for a company headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pa. They had facilities in many states and as a trainee I worked about 90 mi north of Pittsburgh. Twice they brought the trainees into Pittsburgh from all over the US. So, sometimes we would do things together. Some of us decided to go to see The Excorcist. I was amazed at some of the special effects.
Way to step out of your comfort zone and change up a pattern! I'm not great about that either. And my first time watching The Exorcist was when I was 15, and I decided to watch it on a very dark and stormy night. I was pretty freaked out, but now I can watch it and I'm just fascinated with the special effects. My husband won't watch it at all! I enjoy your quilt a lot, thank you for sharing it!
Absolutely adore your interpretation of Little Bits of This and That Monday Mystery quilt. I have made one as well but mine is an autumn palette. Your creation has me wanting to make another with brighter, darker Halloween colours. Thanks for sharing.
Love your quilt!! I don't like scary either :)
I love your wicked use of color and your story. I have always liked scary things but my granddaughter hates them. She wouldn't go anywhere near the Halloween costumes if there was a scary looking mask in view. And my goodness, isn't babysitting scary enough without the scary movie?
I didn't watch the exorcist until I was older and it gave me nightmares too.
cute quilt - thanks for sharing - ps I've still never seen the exorcist !
Perfect for Halloween and for Thanksgiving. I love the use of bright colors. Very well done!
Lovely and quite seasonal. Thanks for sharing!
I don't like scary movie's either. Your little wallhanging is well done, love the bright colors you have used..
You are a busy lady with lots of talent. Thanks for sharing your creations.
It's beautiful, Kristin. Great job!
Your little quilt is perfect for the fall/Halloween season and not scary at all! I know what you mean about scary movies. I felt the same about The Birds.
I feel the same way about Psycho--that shower scene! What a fun quilt you came up with! Pumpkins work.
Kristen it turned out great and there is no rule that your decorations have to be scary. Yours is just perfect.
It's gorgeous Kristen, lovely pattern.
Spooky happy bright and fun, that is how it should be. We don't need any more frightening in my life
I love your fabric choices. Very cute pattern.
