Wicked Blog Hop

It is time for another blog hop, and since this one is the "Wicked" blog hop I decided to do something off the wall for me.

I had to laugh about this when I started thinking back to when I was the age of my son.  I was 13 years old and did a lot of babysitting.   I decided one night to watch the Exorcist.  By the time that movie was over I was petrified and scared to death.  The people I was babysitting for took me home and I couldn't run fast enough to get in the house.  I had horrible nightmares for the weeks to follow and was terrified when it was time to go to bed.  I finally had to tell my mom that I had watched the movie and that I was so sorry I did.  I don't do scary anymore for Halloween after that, so my wicked is the use of color.
The colors are so bright they actually don't show up right.  The blue is more of a purple.  I also just went through my stash and chose from what I had, not paying attention to how much I had.  That meant there were some changes made where fabrics were used because I didn't have enough of one or the other.  This pattern was the Mystery Monday quilt from This and That Patterns.  I did mine differently using dark fabric for the background (another huge step for me).

A huge thank you to Madame Samm and Wendy for organizing this hop, and here are today's participants.

Happy Stitching and Hopping!!  --Kristen

I wasn't allowed to watch that movie until I moved out of my parents house, at the age of 21 it scared me to death also, I wish I had never watched it!

It is good to step out of your comfort zone every now and then. I have a swap partner who this year asked for Aqua, Orange and Grey, I struggled with those for a while and then PING! I fell in love. I now make a block to swap and one to keep.

Kristen, Your projects are always amazing. Your step out to use black for a background looks very "natural." It's amazing and perfect for this project. I love your fabric choices. I often scroll on down to look at the posts available without having to look at "Older Posts." Many of your posts fit into this theme too and are equally amazing. Thanks for participating and being a great, creative inspiration as usual.

I forgot to tell you - I was about 8 years older when I saw The Excorcist I was working for a company headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pa. They had facilities in many states and as a trainee I worked about 90 mi north of Pittsburgh. Twice they brought the trainees into Pittsburgh from all over the US. So, sometimes we would do things together. Some of us decided to go to see The Excorcist. I was amazed at some of the special effects.

Brandy said...

Way to step out of your comfort zone and change up a pattern! I'm not great about that either. And my first time watching The Exorcist was when I was 15, and I decided to watch it on a very dark and stormy night. I was pretty freaked out, but now I can watch it and I'm just fascinated with the special effects. My husband won't watch it at all! I enjoy your quilt a lot, thank you for sharing it!

Audrey said...

Absolutely adore your interpretation of Little Bits of This and That Monday Mystery quilt. I have made one as well but mine is an autumn palette. Your creation has me wanting to make another with brighter, darker Halloween colours. Thanks for sharing.

I love your wicked use of color and your story. I have always liked scary things but my granddaughter hates them. She wouldn't go anywhere near the Halloween costumes if there was a scary looking mask in view. And my goodness, isn't babysitting scary enough without the scary movie?

Mara said...

I didn't watch the exorcist until I was older and it gave me nightmares too.
